Kevin Spacey appeared in the Superior Court of California on Tuesday, where he testified in the trial regarding his firing from the sixth season of House of Cards. Speaking at the witness stand, the actor confirmed that he was diagnosed with “sexual compulsive behavior” in 2017 (via Rolling Stone).

The diagnosis was reportedly part of a psychiatric summary that was issued after Spacey was discharged from The Meadows treatment facility in Arizona, where he had voluntarily entered an inpatient treatment program after facing multiple sexual misconduct accusations. He was discharged on December 16, 2017.

During his testimony on Tuesday, the court asked Spacey to read a part of the official diagnosis aloud. “Other specified obsessive and related behaviors, sexual compulsive behavior, generalized anxiety disorder,” he read from a screen.

The actor also stated that his purpose at The Meadows was to “address sexual behavior and boundaries.” When asked whether he had “any medical basis to challenge the diagnoses,” Spacy replied, “No.”

Later in the testimony, Spacey also disputed parts of his medical records that were written by two doctors. According to the records, the actor had listed “touching in public without permission” as one of his “problem behaviors.” However, Spacey firmly denied telling this to the doctors.

“I can tell you that throughout the medical records, there are comments attributed to me I never said,” Spacey stated. “They have an idea that I had a British accent, that I have a wife,” he added, further stating, “They’re dealing with 29 other men. I have no idea how they take notes. I’m simply saying that’s not something I said because that’s not something I did.”

Spacey took the witness stand in an ongoing legal battle between the House of Cards production company and its insurer. The dispute centers on a nine-figure insurance claim linked to the Emmy-winning show’s sudden production shutdown in 2017. This ultimately led to the series abandoning its original plans for future seasons and re-writing what became its sixth and final season.
