Team Ukraine’s Maksym Murashkovskyi has recently won the silver medal in the men’s visually impaired biathlon at the 2026 Winter Paralympics. Shortly after the victory, the athlete opened up about using ChatGPT as a unique training tool (via The Athletic).

“For the past six months, I have been training with ChatGPT,” Murashkovskyi shared. Explaining how he utilized the Open AI chatbot, he said, “It was not only tactics. It was half of my training plan, motivation, etc. So it was a huge volume of all of my training. I used it as a psychologist, coach, and, sometimes, as a doctor.”

Murashkovskyi further shared, “I know it sounds strange, but I have been preparing for this race for many years” (via The Guardian). Noting ChatGPT’s part in his preparation, the Paralympian stated, “I also won a few medals there, and even a gold. So, I can give great credit to ChatGPT,” adding, “I believe in it, it is a revolutionary technology.”

He also said that without the AI chatbot, he likely would have continued with his “classical training, as I’ve always done, with humans.” However, when asked if AI will ever replace human coaches, the athlete said, “Not completely for five to 10 years. But part of it, definitely.”

This isn’t the first time that a prominent sports personality has gotten candid about the benefits of ChatGPT in training. In an October 2025 appearance on the Soccerish podcast, the head coach of the NWSL’s Seattle Reign, Laura Harvey, opened up about using the AI chatbot.

“I put in, ‘What formation should you play to beat NWSL teams?’ And it spurted out every team in the league and what formation you should play. And for two teams — I’m not going to say who they are because they’ll know — it went, ‘You should play a back five.’ So I did. No joke, that’s why I did it,” Harvey shared (via Reuters).
