The View’s Whoopi Goldberg Slams Donald Trump: ‘Take Your Damn Hat Off’

The View’s Whoopi Goldberg has blasted Donald Trump for not taking his hat off while honoring American soldiers who laid down their lives in the ongoing Iran war. The comedian-actor deemed the president’s demeanor disrespectful as he stood without removing his headgear at the arrival of the fallen military personnel.

On the March 9 episode of The View, the panelists engaged in a Hot Topics discussion about the Iran war, where Goldberg called Trump out for his seemingly impertinent gesture towards the martyred US soliders.

The hosts were alluding to a recent photograph that featured the president at the Dover Air Force Base, saluting the fallen officers without taking his “USA” hat off, as military officials lowered the caskets from an aircraft.

“It really bugged me, and maybe I’m just being picky,” Whoopi Goldberg said while targeting Donald Trump. “When those caskets came off that plane? Take your damn hat off. Take your damn hat off. I didn’t understand why nobody pulled his coat tail and said, ‘Sir, just out of respect?'”

Co-host Sunny Hostin also echoed Goldberg’s sentiment against Trump, noting, “President Obama actually was the first president to preside over that dignified transfer, and he stood there for a 45-minute salute, without a hat on, and with a suit on.”

She continued, “It was a very somber moment. It wasn’t about him, it was about the loss of our soldiers who gave their life for this country. What I saw when I saw [the most recent] dignified transfer was, it was all about Trump, and I thought that was despicable.”

The EGOT-winning actress continued her rant following a commercial break, emphasizing that no one’s child should be put in harm’s way in order to win the war against Iran. “His kids aren’t going. I don’t want anybody’s son and daughter to go, because this is not what we should be doing,” she noted.

Sheryl Underwood, who was filling in as a guest host for Alyssa Farah Griffin, also criticized Trump’s approach. “You are putting American lives and soldiers at risk,” she remarked.
