Whoopi Goldberg has slammed Timothée Chalamet for his controversial remark on ballet and opera on the Monday, March 9, episode of The View. “When you crap on somebody else’s art form, it doesn’t feel good. It doesn’t feel good to see,” the actress and comedian stated.

Chalamet made the statement during a discussion with Matthew McConaughey at the University of Texas for the Variety & CNN Town Hall. The Oscar-nominated actor stated that he does not “want to be working in ballet or opera or things where it’s like, ‘Hey, keep this thing alive, even though, like, no one cares about this anymore.’” He also added, “All respect to the ballet and opera people out there. I just lost 14 cents in viewership.”

Reacting to the comment, Goldberg continued, “And you probably didn’t realize that until you said, ‘Oh, I’m in trouble,’ but then you compounded it and said, like, ‘14 cents.’ No, when people get mad, it’ll be a lot more than 14 cents.” Addressing Chalamet directly, she warned, “So be careful. I’m just saying. Be careful, boy.”

The Academy Award-winning actress added, “He is a boy to me. He’s a boy to me. So no disrespect. And, really, don’t apologize when you’ve insulted, because it doesn’t sound right. You know, you can’t say, ‘Oh, this is dumb, no disrespect….’ That’s absolute disrespect.”

Chalamet’s controversial remark has sparked backlash from the opera and ballet community, with many renowned organizations such as the Metropolitan Opera and the English National Opera calling the actor out on social media.

Most recently, Doja Cat also posted a strong reaction to Chalamet’s comment on her TikTok. In the video, she emphasized the importance of performance arts and highlighted the etiquette surrounding them. Slamming Chalamet directly, the singer and dancer stated, “People give a f***. You show up in a nice outfit. You sit the f*** down and shut the f*** up. That’s the usual etiquette around those things. Maybe learn something from that.”
