The new visuals show a gritty return to form for the disgraced detective. Unlike the snowy expanses of Iceland featured in the first film’s finale, the Luther 2 set is drenched in the quintessential atmosphere of London.
One of the most striking shots obtained by What’s on Netflix shows Elba’s character just outside St. Paul’s Cathedral, running away from a massive car explosion. To make the scene authentically British, crew members used fake rain to soak the streets as stunt doubles handled the high-octane action.
Production has been actively moving around the city. On February 18, crews were spotted in North London near Parkland Walk and Crouch End conducting a night shoot, specifically filming an intense bike chase sequence. According to Netflix, the plot will thrust Luther back into a city under siege. When a wave of brutal and seemingly random murders hits London, the titular detective is secretly called back into service. However, the stakes are higher than ever: he must stop the killings while dodging threats from every direction, as it seems everyone wants him dead.
Additionally, Luther 2 sees the return of beloved franchise staples. Alongside Idris Elba, Dermot Crowley is back as Martin Schenk, and Ruth Wilson will reprise her role as the brilliant and dangerous Alice Morgan. They are joined by Stephen Dillane, Anya Chalotra, Kyle Soller, Ian Hart, and Niamh Algar.
With filming expected to wrap in May 2026, the post-production schedule for Idris Elba’s Luther 2 suggests fans might be waiting until early or mid-2027 to stream the movie on Netflix.
