Apple just unveiled MacBook Neo, a new model in its MacBook laptop series, at an impressively affordable price. The trailer notes that the company “reimagined” how to make a laptop from the “ground up,” while showcasing some of its signature features, including Apple Intelligence.
Apple is bringing its ‘most affordable laptop’, MacBook Neo
On Wednesday, March 4, Apple announced a new device, the MacBook Neo. John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, said, “We’re incredibly excited to introduce MacBook Neo, which delivers the magic of the Mac at a breakthrough price.”
While other MacBooks start at $1,000, this one starts at $599. The affordable price allows the company to reach not only a broader audience but also to compete with other devices in the same price category.
This comes at a time when the global tech world is seeing a shortage in hardware for memory-based devices due to expanding AI infrastructure. Nonetheless, the price of the MacBook Neo will also increase significantly when users opt for higher hardware specifications, such as more RAM or larger storage capacity.
As for the specifications, Neo features a design similar to previous MacBook devices, but with a smaller 13-inch display. It boasts a thin aluminum body made from recycled materials, making it lighter while still capable of withstanding a relatively harsh environment. Its 13-inch Liquid Retina display supports up to 1 billion colors and has a higher maximum brightness capability.
The laptop is powered by the A18 Pro chip, which was also used in the 2024 iPhone 16 Pro devices. With 8GB of RAM, the MacBook Neo should handle daily tasks and multitasking with ease. Interestingly, Apple claims that this device delivers 50% faster performance than the latest PCs on the market with Intel Core Ultra 5 processors and offers 16 hours of battery life.
MacBook Neo features dual side-firing speakers with Spatial Audio and Apple Intelligence integration. Furthermore, it introduces new colors to its laptop lineup, such as Citrus. The device is currently available to pre-order, with the official release scheduled for March 11, 2026.
