Shia LaBeouf Says He’s Scared of ‘Big Gay People’

Shia LaBeouf, who has been making headlines for his arrest and legal troubles, recently gave an interview in which he admitted his fear of “big gay people.” Last month, the actor was arrested on two counts of simple battery. This was after he got involved in a violent altercation at a bar during the Mardi Gras celebrations.

He was initially released on his own recognizance. However, the judge later revoked this at a hearing. The actor was subsequently ordered to post a $100,000 bond and enroll in a weekly drug testing program.

The Transformers actor, currently facing three misdemeanor counts of simple battery, recently sat down for an interview with Andrew Callaghan of Channel 5. During the discussion, Callaghan asked Shia LaBeouf what ticks him off. The latter, who noted that he was drunk and “infringed upon” at the time of his arrest, replied that “big gay people” frighten him.

When asked to elaborate, LaBeouf — who claimed he didn’t have a problem with gay people — admitted that he got afraid when he was by himself and three gay men next to him touched his leg. “I’m sorry. If that’s homophobic, then I’m that,” the Fury star added. He also cited this as the reason why he got arrested.

He blamed himself for the way he acted, claiming he wasn’t “in [his] right mind.” LaBeouf also admitted he used inappropriate language and that his actions were wrong.

Also in the interview, he expressed disinterest in going to drug and alcohol rehabilitation, which he was ordered to do by an Orleans Parish judge. This is despite his acknowledgment that his behavior was far from pleasant. “I don’t think my answers are there, I don’t,” he further stated.

Moreover, he claimed that he didn’t have a drinking problem. He said that he was suffering from something else — a “small man complex.” LaBeouf said that this issue played a role in his “anger and ego.” He added that he was trying to tackle the problem.

Fox 8‘s legal analyst, Joe Raspanti, noted that LaBeouf’s interview could be used against him in court proceedings. He stated, “It can be played, and if he said something against his interest, they’re going to use it.”

In addition to ordering a drug and alcohol rehabilitation, the Orleans Parish judge set the Honey Boy star’s combined bail to $105,000. The bond reportedly drew criticism from LaBeouf’s attorney, Sarah Chervinsky, who highlighted the absurdity surrounding it.
