Justin Timberlake Reportedly Files Motion to Block DUI Video From Going Public

Justin Timberlake has reportedly sought to prevent the release of body-camera footage tied to his 2024 arrest for DUI. The singer’s legal team has filed a petition arguing that the video, if made public, would be a violation of privacy.

Justin Timberlake is reportedly pursuing legal action to stop the public release of the body-camera video from his 2024 arrest in Long Island, New York (via Entertainment Weekly). His attorneys Edward Burke Jr. and Michael J. Del Piano filed a petition in Suffolk County Supreme Court on Monday, seeking to block the video’s release.

Several entities and individuals have reportedly requested the details of the singer’s arrest, including the bodycam footage through the Freedom of Information Law petitions. However, the petition requests the court to either deny the release entirely or ensure that it is “redacted to the maximum extent permitted by law.”

Timberlake’s lawyers argued that the “disclosure of these materials would constitute an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy.” The attorneys further argued that the footage shows private details and personally identifiable information that are not relevant to “any law enforcement action of public concern.” The petition also states, “The harm from public exposure—stigma, harassment, reputational injury, and the permanent loss of privacy—is immediate and irreparable” (via NBC News).

Timberlake’s layers also added that the release of the video would “serve primarily to invade privacy and cause unwarranted embarrassment,” as well as “inform the public about governmental operations or the performance of official duties.” The court has yet to issue a ruling on the matter.

Timberlake was arrested on June 18, 2024, at the Hamptons and charged with one count of driving under the influence and given two citations. The singer later pleaded guilty on September 13, 2024, and agreed to serve 25 to 40 hours of community service and a fine. Speaking outside the courthouse at the time, Timberlake regretted, “This was a mistake that I made, but I’m hoping that whoever’s watching and listening right now can learn from this mistake.”
