US Hockey Star Hilary Knight Slams Donald Trump During SNL Joke

Hilary Knight took a jab at President Donald Trump during her appearance on Saturday Night Live. Her criticism came in light of Trump’s controversial remarks about the women’s hockey team, which won gold at the Winter Olympics. Knight joked that the SNL appearance was initially meant to include only members of the women’s team, but they decided to invite the men as well, giving them a moment to shine.

Hilary Knight, alongside Megan Keller, plus two members from the men’s hockey team, Jack and Quinn Hughes, recently appeared on the weekend edition of SNL, hosted by Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie. Alluding to Trump’s distasteful joke, Knight said, “It was going to be just us, but we thought we’d invite the guys too. We thought we’d give them a little moment to shine”.

This sarcastic comment also comes amid reports that some members of the men’s team laughed at the president’s joke during the locker-room call. However, some of them have addressed the situation, expressing regret for their actions.

For instance, Team USA backup goalie Jeremy Swayman admitted that they should have reacted differently to the joke. He further added, “We know that we are so excited for the women’s team. We have so much respect for the women’s team. To share that gold medal with them is something we’re forever grateful for.”

On a phone call, Trump initially congratulated the men’s hockey team on their win and invited them to the State of the Union in Washington. He also assured them that he would take care of their transportation to the destination. He further revealed that they would be required to summon the women’s team as well, given that if he doesn’t, he could be impeached.

It is to be noted that the women’s team declined Trump’s invitation, citing “scheduled academic and professional commitments following the Games” as the reason.
