California Governor Gavin Newsom‘s new memoir revealed that US President Donald Trump allegedly tried to play matchmaker between his daughter, Ivanka Trump, and NFL legend Tom Brady. But Ivanka chose Jared Kushner instead.

The anecdote, shared in Newsom’s recently released “Young Man in a Hurry: A Memoir of Discovery,” offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at Trump family dynamics and the unlikely intersection of football, politics, and romance.
According to Newsom, the story happened during a conversation aboard Marine One, the presidential helicopter. Donald Trump reportedly told the California governor that Tom Brady had shown interest in dating Ivanka after meeting her at an event. “When Brady was single, the two of them were at a function and Brady expressed an interest in dating his daughter Ivanka,” Newsom wrote, recounting Trump’s words. “The quarterback asked for her number, and Trump gave it to him,” he added.
But the potential romance never materialized. “Brady called Ivanka and left a message, but she never called him back,” Newsom continued. Soon after, Brady mentioned the snub to Trump, prompting the then-businessman to confront his daughter. The conversation took an awkward turn, especially since Jared Kushner was present. “I said, ‘Jesus, you know, Tom Brady. What the hell is going on? Why aren’t you calling this guy back?'” Newsom recalls Trump saying. “And she tells me, ‘Oh, I’m in love.’ ‘What do you mean you’re in love?’ And that’s when she mentions this guy,” he added.
Trump then gestured to Kushner and made a remark about his family history: “Not the guy whose father just got out of prison?” Jared Kushner’s father, Charles Kushner, served two years in federal prison after pleading guilty in 2004 to 18 criminal counts, including tax evasion and witness retaliation. Trump later pardoned the elder Kushner and appointed him ambassador to France (via New York Post).
Despite Trump’s matchmaking efforts, Ivanka and Kushner began dating in 2005 through mutual friends. The couple now has three children: Arabella Rose, Joseph Frederick, and Theodore James.
