Marvel actor Wyatt Russell opened up about many fans not knowing that his father is Kurt Russell. Wyatt plays the younger version of his father’s character, Lee Shaw, in Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The revelation that they are a real-life father-son duo left some fans shocked, sparking a hilarious online reaction.

During a fan Q&A event for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Wyatt Russell read some viral fan reactions. The most eye-catching of those was the one in which a fan admitted that they were not aware of the relationship between Kurt and Wyatt Russell. The fan wrote, “Man… that dude that plays the younger version of Kurt Russell’s character in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is doing a pretty cool Kurt Russell impersonation.”
The Escape from New York star burst into laughter as he read the word “impersonation.” Meanwhile, Wyatt continued reading the fan’s reaction aloud. The comment added, “My face when I found out it was actually his son,” alongside a GIF of Pikachu’s shocked expression, highlighting the fan’s surprise at the revelation.
Wyatt admitted that some people had not made the connection of him being Kurt’s son. He said, “I’ve had a few people who are like, ‘Oh wow, you’re actually his son.” You just assume that after 17 years of being in the public eye that most people would know.” Kurt said that this was the first time he had come across such a comment. His son replied that very less people knew about their real-life relationship than he thought.
At one point in the interview, Wyatt also joked that Pikachu “might being more famous than Godzilla,” which made his father laugh. The 39-year-old initially pursued a career in pro hockey before ultimately following in his father’s footsteps. He portrayed John Walker in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Thunderbolts*, and will reprise the role in Avengers: Doomsday.
