Larry Summers reportedly set to resign after Epstein files revelation
Harvard University spokesperson Jason Newton recently released a statement to HuffPost, confirming Summers’ resignation. He said, “In connection with the ongoing review by the university of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein that were recently released by the government, Harvard Kennedy School Dean Jeremy Weinstein has accepted Professor Lawrence H. Summers’ resignation from his leadership position as co-director of the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government.”
He revealed that Summers will retire from his academic and faculty appointments at the end of this year. Until then, he will remain on leave. The United States Department of Justice’s release of the Epstein files included a series of emails, photos, and other documents, bringing several powerful figures’ names into the expanding list. According to reports, Larry Summers and Jeffrey Epstein had discussions about politics and current affairs.
Additionally, Summers reportedly reached out to Epstein separately to seek advice about his relationship with a woman he was tutoring in economics. One of the emails from Summers read, “Think for now I’m going nowhere with her except as an economics mentor.” At the time, Epstein referred to himself as his “wingman.”
Through several emails, it’s also learned that the duo had frequent dinners and that Epstein also helped Summers to connect with important figures. Before this resignation announcement, Summers had also quit his position at OpenAI, following the Epstein files release.
