Tulsa King Spin-off With Samuel L. Jackson Reveals New Title & Episode Count

The expanding universe of Tulsa King just got a major upgrade. The upcoming spin-off series featuring Samuel L. Jackson has undergone a major creative transformation, complete with a new title and much more involvement from co-creator Taylor Sheridan.

Samuel L. Jackson’s Tulsa King spin-off has a new title with episode count

The series, previously announced as NOLA King, has officially been renamed to Frisco King. The change reflects a major shift in the show’s setting, moving the action from New Orleans to Frisco, Texas. This creative overhaul also brings a substantial increase in the show’s scope. Sheridan is now going to write all eight episodes of the first season.

Additionally, this is a significant expansion from the original plan, which involved a pilot script from Dave Erickson. Erickson, who was attached as showrunner, left the project in July 2025. At this time, it remains unclear if Frisco King will appoint a new showrunner, as not all of Sheridan’s series seem to operate with one.

Production is moving forward quickly, with casting underway. Further, the filming is scheduled to begin in late March in Fort Worth, Texas.

Taylor Sheridan directly involved in development of Frisco King

Taylor Sheridan’s direct involvement in writing the entire first season is a massive vote of confidence for Frisco King. While he co-wrote the Tulsa King pilot, he seems to be taking full creative control of this spin-off. According to Matt Thunell, President of Paramount Television Studios, having Sheridan write the entire season will “bring to life Samuel L. Jackson’s iconic character” and serve as a “treat for fans.”

Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals at Paramount+, echoed this excitement, stating, “Having Samuel L. Jackson step into this universe is a testament to the scale and ambition of the storytelling Taylor is crafting. We’re thrilled to expand this storyline with such a powerhouse creative team and cast on Paramount+” (via Deadline).

Samuel L. Jackson’s character, Russell Lee Washington Jr., debuted on Tulsa King during the third season. The character made enough of an impression to warrant his own series.
