Tom Hardy Is Coming Back With Venom — But There’s a Catch

The Venom fandom is going wild as Tom Hardy prepares to reprise his role as the lethal symbiote’s host, Eddie Brock. But, as with any major superhero reveal, there’s more to the story than meets the eye. Rumors have been swirling that the upcoming Venom movie is taking a bold new direction, and it’s shaping up to be a wild ride.

Tom Hardy is returning with Venom but there’s a twist

Tom Hardy is returning as Eddie Brock, the man behind the mayhem: Venom. But this time around, he’s venturing into uncharted territory. The latest Venom installment is gearing up to be an animated adventure, and the Legend star is lending his voice to the titular character.

Sony’s Venom is taking a bold leap into animation, paving the way for a fresh, unmapped exploration of the character’s twisted world. The move promises to unleash the full potential of the symbiote’s dark, gritty universe, unshackling the franchise from the constraints of live-action.

The animated Venom project has Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the dynamic duo behind the horror hit Final Destination: Bloodlines, on board as directors. Meanwhile, producers Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach, who’ve been instrumental in shaping the live-action films, are bringing their expertise to this animated venture.

Besides reprising his anti-hero role, Tom Hardy is taking on the new role of producer alongside Kelly Marcel, his trusted collaborator from the live-action films. For those unaware, Marcel has penned the screenplays for all three Venom movies– Venom (2018), Let There Be Carnage (2021). She also served as director for The Last Dance (2024).

As of now, the script for the animated Venom is still in the works. Sony Pictures Animation is setting up a writers’ room to explore and shape the narrative, with no writer officially assigned to the project at this time. Hence, with animation being a slow process and a script still in development, a Venom movie is likely years away.
