Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are set to fight it out in a rematch on September 19 this year. Their fight took place a decade ago, on May 2, 2015, and was dubbed the Fight of the Century or the Battle for Greatness.

Mayweather won the contest by unanimous decision. But fans at the time felt the boxing match between two solid opponents was underwhelming.

It doesn’t help that Mayweather is 49 and Pacquiao is 47, respectively, this year. Moreover, Mayweather’s last professional fight that held his unbeaten streak came in 2017, almost a decade ago, when he defeated Conor McGregor. On the other hand, Pacquiao fought for the WBC welterweight championship in 2025.

Although Mayweather and Pacquiao are well past their prime, the buzz around the rematch is strong. Pacquiao remarked, “Floyd and I gave the world what remains the biggest fight in boxing history. The fans have waited long enough – they deserve this rematch, and it will be even bigger now that it will be streamed live globally on Netflix. I want Floyd to live with the one loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him.”

Pacquiao also paid homage to his Filipino roots. He said, “As always, I dedicate this fight to my fellow Filipinos around the world and to bringing glory to the Philippines.”

Mayweather, who beat Pacquiao, simply declared, “I already fought and beat Manny once. This time will be the same result.”
