Avengers: Doomsday’s Death Count Could Be Bigger Than Infinity War

Speculation surrounding Avengers: Doomsday has resurfaced following renewed attention on an old Mark Ruffalo interview. Comments the actor made years ago during the press tour for Avengers: Infinity War are now drawing scrutiny amid fresh rumors about the upcoming Marvel film.

Major deaths rumored for Avengers: Doomsday

Rumors about major character deaths in Avengers: Doomsday have circulated following a post from scooper @MyTimeToShineHello on X (formerly Twitter).

The account stated, “Mark Ruffalo said that everyone dies in Avengers: Infinity War, which turned out to be only half true – but it is true for Avengers Doomsday.”

In a July 2017 interview with Good Morning America at Disney’s D23 Expo, Ruffalo said, “Like every other Marvel movie, it doesn’t end well for the superheroes… Wait till you see this next one, ha— everybody dies.” He then clarified, “Not everybody.”

Additional claims allege specific characters die in the film’s opening sequence. @MyTimeToShineHello posted, “Tobey’s Spidey and Hugh’s Wolverine both die at the beginning of Avengers Doomsday.” The scooper also wrote, “In Avengers Doomsday, Deadpool and Wolverine are sent to Tobey’s Earth to destroy it. Then we get an EPIC Tobey’s Spider-Man vs Wolverine fight that ends in tragedy.”

A Nerdrotic at Night livestream reported that Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man is destroyed by the Fox X-Men and dies. Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus challenged the report, saying that Maguire’s Spider-Man does not die in the film. Marvel Studios has not confirmed any leaked plot details regarding character deaths.

Anthony and Joe Russo direct Avengers: Doomsday, and Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely wrote the screenplay. The ensemble cast features Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, alongside Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans.

Marvel Studios will release the film in the United States on December 18.
