Rumors that Prince Harry tried to contact Prince William through a go‑between are receiving a sharp response from inside the palace. Royal author Omid Scobie has claimed that Harry reached out to his brother in 2023 using an “intermediary,” a mutual friend, in the hope of opening the door to a conversation, later reiterating the claims while promoting his book “Endgame.” However, sources now tell a different story.
Prince Harry’s olive branch to Prince William is ‘simply not true,’ says source
Omid Scobie told Us Weekly that Prince Harry wanted some kind of contact with Prince William, possibly with a third person present, but nothing came of it. According to Scobie, “It didn’t happen,” and a “stone wall is still up” between the brothers. He had added, “Unless the attitudes change on both sides, we’re never going to find any way to resolution.”
However, William’s sources reportedly reject the idea that Harry ever sent a mediator to his elder brother, with one palace insider telling Rob Shuter, “There was no mediator. No secret olive branch. It’s simply not true.” Meanwhile, another source remarked, “Harry is not shy. If he can get Oprah on the phone, he can call his brother directly.”
At the same time, royal aides see a pattern with Scobie. A royal source told Shuter, “Omid knows exactly how to generate headlines,” adding, “And he’s about as shy as Harry — which is to say, not at all.” They noted, “When a book is coming from someone like him, stories start appearing.” The insider further anticipated, “Expect more dramatic retellings as the release date gets closer,” as Scobie and those close to Harry continue insisting that he tried to reach out and hit a wall.
William and Harry lost contact when the latter and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior working royals in 2020, moving to California soon after. Besides, Harry’s memoir “Spare” detailed clashes within the royal family. Now, reports say the brothers have not appeared together in public since August 2024.
