MrBeast has opened up about a personal health issue after online chatter about his appearance resurfaced. The YouTube megastar revealed new details about his vision while responding directly to a viral comment.
MrBeast said this about his eye health
The chatter kicked off after a social media post zoomed in on MrBeast’s eyes and claimed they “never smile.” The clip quickly picked up steam online. That buzz pushed the YouTuber, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, to chip in and clear things up.
Donaldson said the criticism misses the real story. “I love how the biggest criticism of me is about my eyes, which are out of my control,” he wrote. He then revealed he is “borderline blind” in his right eye. Because of that, he often has to “squint” to see properly, even while wearing contacts.
According to him, that constant squint is what people are noticing on camera. He stressed there is basically “nothing” he “can do” to change how it looks. The reason they look off is because I have to squint my right eye to see better, even with my contacts in. There is nothing I can do,“ Jimmy wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The original poster eventually walked it back. They wrote, “If it’s a vision thing, then fair enough, sorry you’re blind, man. That sucks.” Soon after, many fans jumped in to defend MrBeast. Several users argued that taking shots at someone’s physical traits is going too far.
Another user chimed in, saying people love to target “the one thing” someone can’t control and twist it into “a character flaw.” The commenter added that Jimmy didn’t “owe anyone an explanation,” but gave him props for “saying it straight.”
“People will literally find a way to villainize a man for the way his eyes focus while he’s busy curing blindness for thousands,” a different commenter wrote.
