1 of Keanu Reeves’ Best Action Movies Is Arriving Soon on Hulu

The Hulu streaming date for an iconic action thriller starring Keanu Reeves has been set for next month. Also starring Sandra Bullock, the film not only achieved massive box office success but also received overwhelming critical acclaim and even won two Oscars.

Speed begins streaming on Hulu in March

The 1994 action-adventure movie Speed will start streaming on Hulu on Sunday, March 1, 2026 (via Hulu).

Making his feature directorial debut, Jan de Bont helmed the film with a script from Graham Yost. The film features Keanu Reeves as Jack Traven, Sandra Bullock as Annie Porter, Dennis Hopper as Howard Payne, Jeff Daniels as Harry Temple, and Joe Morton as Herb “Mac” McMahon, among others.

The film’s story begins with Jack and his partner, Harry, defusing a bomb in an elevator planted by Howard Payne. After they narrowly prevented major casualties, Payne fakes his death and seeks revenge, especially on Jack. He later plants a bomb on a city bus that will detonate when it goes below 50 mph, which prompts Jack to board the bus to help the passengers. But after a series of unfortunate events, the driver gets shot, and Annie is forced to drive the bus through LA traffic.

Upon its theatrical release, both critics and audiences took a liking to the film. It currently boasts an impressive 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Furthermore, the positive reviews translated into box office success, helping Speed earn more than $121 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo). The following year, it won Oscars for Best Sound and Best Effects, Sound Effects Editing.

In a 2014 interview, Yost revealed that the Point Break star was not the first choice to portray Jack. He said that he had considered Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Wesley Snipes, and Woody Harrelson. When “someone’s kid at the studio” suggested Reeves’s name, they considered him and later met him.

Furthermore, while writing the script, Yost wanted Annie to be more of a comic relief. As a result, he considered Ellen DeGeneres to portray the part at one point. But as the script and character evolved, the role ultimately went to Bullock.
