Ex-Prince Andrew Arrested on Suspicion of Misconduct Amid Epstein Scandal — Report

The police arrested ex-Prince Andrew, a.k.a. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, on Thursday morning at the Sandringham estate, with the BBC reporting that officers are investigating an allegation of misconduct in public office.

This, in turn, puts the former Duke of York back at the center of public scrutiny. With wider speculations around his charges related to Jeffrey Epstein, people are watching this developing story more closely than ever.

Ex-Prince Andrew arrested at Sandringham estate and ‘remains in police custody at this time,’ per police report

The BBC reported that ex-Prince Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office on the day that marked his 66th birthday. Per the outlet, the arrest happened after police activity was spotted earlier in the day at Sandringham in Norfolk, where Andrew has been living since leaving his royal mansion in Windsor.

The Guardian further reported that the Norfolk police supported Thames Valley Police. In a statement, the Thames Valley Police confirmed an arrest without naming the suspect. They reported, “As part of the investigation, we have today (19/2) arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office and are carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk.”

The police added, “The man remains in police custody at this time.” Additionally, they urged caution due to the active nature of the case. They stated, “We will not be naming the arrested man, as per national guidance. Please also remember that this case is now active, so care should be taken with any publication to avoid being in contempt of court.”

Furthermore, Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright said, “Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office.” He added, “We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.”

The BBC reported that the police previously assessed allegations that Andrew shared sensitive information with Jeffrey Epstein during his time as a United Kingdom trade envoy. However, the police have neither confirmed any further details about the specific allegation behind Thursday’s arrest in public statements, nor have they announced any charges.
