Ben Robinson explains why he canceled his wedding
Ben Robinson opened up about breaking off his engagement to Kiara Cabral on the February 16 episode of Below Deck Down Under. In a confessional, he said (via PEOPLE), “I was meant to get married last year. And I caught her — she had been seeing one of my friends for a very long time.”
The confession came out during a crew night out while they played “Shag, Marry, Kill.” After two cast members chose to kill him in the game. The decision got Ben Robinson upset and later broke down in tears.
He said, “I’m just really sensitive right now. I just… I’m more sensitive because everyone’s just f—— let me down, that’s why.” He later said the experience left him with little faith in humanity. Reflecting on it in the after-show, he added he may not have fully healed from the breakup, “I think that maybe I wasn’t quite healed.”
He also said that his friend and former Below Deck star Kate Chastain had doubts about his relationship from early on. “It’s funny, because Kate liked my ex-fiancée a little bit in the beginning, but she kind of sussed her out. Kate kind of became a little, ‘I don’t really like her.’ She’s like a human lie detector.”
On the reality show, Robinson revealed that he spent “$50,000 on a wedding I didn’t attend.” He shared the details during a candid moment. He and Kiara Cabral got engaged in May 2023 after four years together.
Their relationship came to an end a year later. He later addressed the situation publicly. He confirmed the split on Instagram in September 2024.
