When news of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement surfaced, speculation immediately began that Swift would perform at the Super Bowl 2026 halftime show. But it did not happen. However, according to sources, there is a possibility that the singer might perform at the Super Bowl in the near future, but only after the Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end retires.
Taylor Swift won’t ‘perform and cheer on Travis Kelce in the same season’ of Super Bowl, per source
When Taylor Swift announced her engagement to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce last August, speculation about her performing at the 2026 Super Bowl started surfacing online.
Even NFL CEO Roger Goodell fueled the speculation with his interview with the Today Show on September 3. He said that the league “would always love to have Taylor play.”
“She is a special, special talent, and obviously she would be welcome at any time,” he told hosts Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin while discussing Super Bowl 2026, as per Glamour.
However, the global pop icon did not perform at the Super Bowl LX halftime show. It was Bad Bunny who set the record with his enthralling performance. And post-performance, Jay-Z, “doesn’t want safe. He wants culture-defining.” The rapper and business mogul’s company, Roc Nation, has been selecting performers and producing the Super Bowl halftime shows since 2019.
And although “Taylor equals ratings,” Jay “isn’t chasing guaranteed anymore. He’s chasing impact,” an executive told Naughty But Nice, Rob Shutter.
Even sources close to the pop icon said that Swift will not headline the Super Bowl while her NFL player fiancé is still playing in the league.
“She won’t perform and cheer him on in the same season,” a source explains. “If she does it, it’ll be after he retires.”
The “Blank Space” singer has also talked about her performance at the sporting event on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, saying that she is “in love with a guy who does that sport on that actual field.” Hence, when Kelce is playing this “very high-pressure, high-intensity sport,” she can’t perform as she is “just too locked in.”
