As The Night Agent heads into its third season, questions are swirling about the show’s future on Netflix. The spy thriller, which holds an 80 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and delivered strong viewership numbers in its debut run, has reportedly begun development on a potential fourth season.
The Night Agent Season 4 likely to be renewed
As per Deadline, development on a fourth season of The Night Agent has already begun, even though Netflix has yet to make a formal renewal announcement.
The political thriller, led by Gabriel Basso, will launch its third season on February 19, 2026, and discussions about the next season are reportedly well underway behind the scenes. Series creator Shawn Ryan confirmed that a writers room for a prospective fourth season was assembled in 2025. “Season 4 is not officially picked up yet, but a while ago, in calendar year 2025, they did quietly pick up a writers room,” he said.
The creative team has been outlining a storyline and drafting scripts in anticipation of a possible renewal. According to Ryan, several scripts are already in progress, allowing production to move forward without delay if approval is granted. He exlained, “We’ve been working for a while on the storyline. We have some scripts, we are breaking stories. I think you know from the tax credit, there’s a date by which you need to be filming by; there’s time for us at the moment.”
Netflix sources previously indicated that executives plan to evaluate the performance of Season 3 before making a final decision on Season 4. The series earned an early Season 3 renewal in October 2024, several months before Season 2 premiered. Meanwhile, the first season remains among Netflix’s most popular English-language series. Season 2 also delivered strong results.
Ryan suggested that a formal decision on Season 4 could come soon. He added that the creative team is preparing scripts in advance to reduce the gap between seasons if another is ordered.
