James Van Der Beek passed away on February 11, 2026, at the age of 48, after a battle with colorectal cancer. Shortly after the Dawson’s Creek star’s death, his close associates launched a GoFundMe to secure financial support for his wife Kimberly Van Der Beek, and their six children.
The donation page has successfully raised over $1 million as of now, surpassing its initial goal of $550,000. By Wednesday afternoon, it received around $346,943, which quickly went up to a million and has now set a new target of $1.3 million.
Kimberly shared the link of the GoFundMe page on her social media with a heartfelt note. She penned, “My friends created this link to support me and my children during this time. With gratitude and a broken heart.”
Fans as well as multiple notable celebrities has shared their support for the Van Der Beek family. Avatar star Zoe Saldaña reportedly donated $2,500 on a monthly basis, while Norman Lear’s widow Lyn Lear gave $5,000. Other stars who have generous donations include YouTuber Codie Sanchez, television writer and producer Julie Plec, Cameo co-founder Martin Blencowe, and more (via The Hollywood Reporter).
