2 Classic Jim Carrey Comedies Will Be Removed From Netflix

One of Jim Carrey’s iconic film series is leaving Netflix next month. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls are among the films that launched Carrey into stardom, cementing his stance as one of the best comedy actors in the industry.

Jim Carrey’s Ace Ventura movies are leaving Netflix next month

Both Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls will be delisted from Netflix’s library on Sunday, March 1st, 2026.

The movies follow Ace (Carrey), a pet detective, who specifically handles cases of missing animals. They lean heavily into over-the-top comedy elements through the Ace’s exaggerated and unapologetic behavior.

The first movie was released on February 4, 1994, and quickly became a hit. Its sequel followed a little over a year later, releasing on November 10, 1995. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, both movies turned out to be massive box office successes. They globally earned over $107 million and $212 million, respectively.

Along with the box office achievement, the first movie was a major breakthrough for The Truman Show star. Shortly after its release, he appeared in The Mask and Dumb and Dumber later in the same year, both garnering further success.

Interestingly, the Bruce Almighty actor was not the first choice for the role. The filmmakers had approached Rick Moranis to play the role, but he declined. They also considered making the movie with a female lead character, reportedly considering Whoopi Goldberg for the part (via ET).

However, the role ultimately landed with Carrey, who later admitted to also helping with the script and that he was allowed to improve while filming. “I knew this movie was going to either be something that people really went for, or it was going to ruin me completely,” he told the LA Times in a 1994 interview.

“From the beginning of my involvement, I said that the character had to be rock ‘n’ roll. He had to be the .007 of pet detectives. I wanted to be unstoppably ridiculous, and they let me go wild,” Carrey added.
