Drake Loses $1M on Patriots at Super Bowl Fueling ‘Curse’ Theories

Drake once again found himself at the center of Super Bowl chatter after placing a massive wager that didn’t pay off. The rapper put $1 million on the New England Patriots to win the 2026 Super Bowl, a bold move that instantly grabbed attention online. When the bet fell flat, fans quickly revived long-running jokes about the so-called “Drake Curse,” turning his loss into a viral talking point.

Fans spark Drake ‘curse’ rumors after he loses $1 million bet on Patriots at Super Bowl

Drake decided to raise the stakes ahead of the Super Bowl. On Saturday, Feb. 7, the Hotline Bling rapper posted an Instagram story revealing a $1 million bet on the New England Patriots to beat the Seattle Seahawks. He paired the screenshot with a bold caption daring fans to bet against him, while tagging betting site Stake. If the Patriots had won under quarterback Drake Maye, the payout would’ve hit a staggering $2.95 million.

But instead of applause, the post triggered instant jokes. Fans rushed to the comments with classic sarcasm, joking that Seattle had already won. “Congrats to the Seahawks,” one wrote, while others crowned them champs on the spot.

The internet’s favorite superstition, the “Drake Curse” has been chasing the rapper for years, thanks to a trail of very public betting Ls. Back in 2016, he reportedly dropped $60,000 after losing an NBA Finals bet to French Montana. Fast forward to 2025, and the curse talk gained traction again when the Toronto Maple Leafs got knocked out by the Florida Panthers, right after Drake was said to have placed a $1 million bet. Every loss just adds fuel to the meme fire.

Drake, for his part, takes it in stride. He’s laughed it off in interviews, pointing out that the Raptors did win a championship, so “nobody could ever talk to me about the Drake Curse.” He’s also been refreshingly honest, admitting that sports betting isn’t exactly his lane, joking that he’s a “flawed bettor” and that picking winners isn’t his “gift.”
