New reports involving Prince William’s uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, have sucked the royal family back into the kind of spotlight it has tried to keep at arm’s length. And royal watchers say William’s patience has allegedly run out.
The Prince of Wales reportedly believes that the more Andrew remains in sight, the harder it becomes to protect the institution William will one day lead. And as experts see it, the prince’s answer is allegedly to maintain distance.
Prince William to ‘prevent’ ex-Prince Andrew from coming close to family, says expert
Fox News reported that multiple royal experts weighed in on the latest round of damaging attention around Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former prince and Prince William’s uncle. And the Prince of Wales is not having it. Besides, the outlet noted that experts claimed the scandal creates a major problem for the palace.
British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard told Fox News that William is reportedly “furious” that a tougher stance has not been taken against his uncle. Chard claimed, “William believes Andrew is obliterating the monarchy’s good work, and it’s become vulnerable to the stream of bombshell revelations,” pointing to a divide in approach between father and son.
As such, she added, “King Charles had wanted to keep his brother close by. However, I believe William will put his foot down and prevent his uncle from moving so close to his family.” Moreover, royal commentator Meredith Constant described Andrew’s recent public appearance as striking, given the renewed scrutiny.
She highlighted, “Andrew was photographed over the weekend at Sandringham, on horseback at a well-known location where photographers often capture the royals.” She added, “It conveys that he feels above it all — unbothered, almost defiant.”
Additionally, Constant claimed that William already thinks ahead to what follows King Charles’s reign. She said, “Prince William was smart to hire a PR crisis expert.”
Buckingham Palace previously told Fox News that it does not comment on matters concerning Andrew because he is no longer a working royal. However, it has reached out to Andrew’s attorney for comments on the situation.
