Avengers: Doomsday Plot To Infuriate Marvel Fandom – Report

Marvel Studios’ upcoming mega-event, Avengers: Doomsday, is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious and potentially divisive films in the MCU’s history, plot-wise. According to a new report from a well-known insider, the creative decisions being made could leave a portion of the fanbase furious.

Marvel insider claims Avengers: Doomsday could make people angry

Industry tipster Daniel Richtman took to social media to express reservations about the direction of both Avengers: Doomsday and its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars. “I have mixed feelings about the direction they’re taking with Avengers Doomsday / Secret Wars,” the insider wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Some of it sounds super epic, but there are certain decisions I don’t want to spoil that I really don’t understand, and I think they’re going to make people REALLY angry,” he added.

While fan debate is commonplace for any blockbuster, this warning could carry weight given the sprawling, high-stakes plot rumored to be in play. Speculation has long swirled around Doctor Doom having a wife and child, Steve Rogers’ potential role in causing multiversal incursions, and major character deaths. It appears directors Joe and Anthony Russo, alongside writer Stephen McFeely, are taking narrative swings that will not universally please audiences, according to the insider.

Fueling this anxiety are recent comments from veteran actor Ian McKellen, who appears to have let slip a major plot point. While reminiscing about practical effects, McKellen stated on Jake’s Takes, “Nowadays, I think things will become a little bit easier — though I did destroy New Jersey the other day. Oooh, I perhaps shouldn’t have said that…”

This line immediately evokes memories of the infamous comic storyline Ultimatum, where a grief-stricken Magneto uses Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, to reverse Earth’s magnetic poles, drowning Manhattan and killing numerous heroes. The story is notorious for its bleak tone and shocking deaths, making it a controversial choice for adaptation.

Directed by the Russo Brothers, Avengers: Doomsday is releasing on December 18, with Avengers: Secret Wars to follow in 2027.
