Ex-Prince Andrew Vacates Royal Lodge & Moves To Temporary Property

After months of speculation about where he would live next, ex-Prince Andrew has now reportedly left Royal Lodge in Windsor and relocated to Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, marking the end of an era at the grand Windsor property. The former prince moved out on Monday night and has set up a temporary base at Wood Farm Cottage. The arrangement gives him somewhere to live while renovations take place on his expected long-term home.

Ex-Prince Andrew moves from Royal Lodge to Sandringham Estate in Norfolk

The BBC reported that ex-Prince Andrew has vacated the Royal Lodge and temporarily moved to Sandringham Estate — but he is believed to live at Marsh Farm on the estate ultimately. This move follows an announcement made last autumn. Buckingham Palace confirmed in October that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor would be leaving Royal Lodge, and at the same time, he was officially stripped of his royal title.

In the days before his departure from Windsor, the expected shift looked more like a slow packing-up than a dramatic exit. The publication noted that he was last seen in Windsor on Monday, riding on horseback near Royal Lodge, and photographers later captured him driving away from Windsor Castle and waving at passers-by.

Moreover, he is reportedly expected to return to Windsor in the coming weeks to collect the remainder of his belongings. But Norfolk will now serve as his official base.

Money and maintenance are in the background of the Royal Lodge story, with the BBC citing a National Audit Office report. In that, they detailed how, when Andrew took on the lease in 2003, he agreed to pay more than £8 million toward repairs — effectively paying a notional rent in advance over the term of the lease.

Furthermore, the publication noted that the level of repairs needed means he will, in all likelihood, not receive compensation for ending the lease early.

Right now, all that ex-Prince Andrew has in terms of accommodation after exiting the Royal Lodge is a temporary cottage at King Charles’ privately owned Sandringham Estate — where the King will cover the costs.
