Jason Segel is living a dream many actors only hope for: working alongside his longtime hero. The How I Met Your Mother star recently shared his excitement about Michael J. Jason Segel talks about working with Michael J. Fox on Shrinking Season 3
Segel described Fox as his “true north” when navigating the tricky path of early stardom. Reflecting on the opportunity to collaborate, he said, “I got to say like, ‘Hey, I want you to know, in a period when I was trying to figure out what I could do with this job, you were like our true north.’ It was really cool to get to say that to him.” Fox, known for Back to the Future and Family Ties, has been a guiding example and an “Idol” for Segel since the start of his career.
Segel recalled how he and his team, 20 years ago, would constantly point to Fox’s career as proof that it was possible to juggle multiple projects successfully. “When I was doing a TV show and trying to make movies at the same time, it’s scary and exhausting, and we would literally say to each other, ‘Hey, Michael J. Fox did it,’” he said, highlighting how Fox’s work ethic inspired him to keep pushing forward.
Fox’s involvement in Shrinking Season 3 came about after he noticed that the show’s storyline addressed Parkinson’s disease, the same condition he has been managing since 1991. According to PEOPLE, Fox reached out to series creator Bill Lawrence, which led to a three-episode arc in which he portrays a patient navigating life with Parkinson’s.
Shrinking Season 3 continues to explore heartfelt stories with humor and insight, with new episodes airing Wednesdays on Apple TV through April 8.
