A former Saturday Night Live star recently showered praise on Finding Nemo and WALL-E. Kate McKinnon discussed her love for two iconic Pixar flicks during the premiere of her upcoming film, In the Blink of an Eye. Moreover, she claimed that the two renowned animated films comprise “ancient wisdom.”
Kate McKinnon praises Finding Nemo and WALL-E
Kate McKinnon recently attended the premiere of In the Blink of an Eye, a sci-fi drama, at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. In her interview with PEOPLE, the actress opened up about her love for Pixar movies. This includes the works of her film’s director, Andrew Stanton. Speaking about Stanton, the 42-year-old stated, “I’m a lifelong fan, absolutely.” She further added, “The themes of the stories that he tells, to me, the films are quasi-religious texts.”
“I mean, they contain an ancient wisdom. He is possessed of an ancient wisdom,” McKinnon continued. The former Saturday Night Live cast member then gave examples of Stanton’s popular works, Finding Nemo (2003), and WALL-E (2008). She praised the classics before addressing her 2026 film. “These are tales that speak about time, humanity, life itself. Absolutely. And this film was no exception.” McKinnon noted.
Finding Nemo follows a clownfish named Marlin who goes on a journey with a forgetful fish to find his son, Nemo. The animated comedy drama opened to widespread critical acclaim and became the second-highest-grossing film of 2003. Moreover, it secured four nominations at the Oscars, eventually winning Best Animated Feature.
In his interview with Business Insider, Stanton shared how he wanted to make a film like Bambi, “where you work more with the rules of nature, where everything wants to eat you.” Finding Nemo followed that approach. The director said, “Nemo is working with the real world, the real predatory world, and was definitely a response to that movie.”
On the other hand, WALL-E follows a waste cleaning robot on a deserted Earth who falls in love with another robot. It also emerged as a critical and commercial success, earning six Oscar nominations. Similar to Finding Memo, WALL-E swept the Best Animated Feature category.
