Saturday Night Live (SNL) didn’t hold back in its latest episode. The hosts skewered both a costly new documentary about First Lady Melania Trump and the latest political controversies surrounding President Donald Trump.
Colin Jost and Michael Che troll Melania documentary
The show’s Weekend Update segment, anchored by Colin Jost and Michael Che, immediately zeroed in on the recently released documentary Melania. It premiered in theaters on January 30 to reports of weak ticket sales and significant online backlash. “This week a documentary about Melania Trump debuted in theaters—it’s titled ‘Wicked for Real,’” joked Colin Jost.
Michael Che quickly connected the film to its controversial director, Brett Ratner. Hollywood ostracized him following allegations of sexual misconduct from six women in 2017. Ratner, however, has denied the allegations. “Melania was directed by Rush Hour director Brett Ratner, which explains this scene,” Che said.
The show then cut to a famous clip from the Rush Hour franchise, digitally altering it to feature Melania Trump. In the clip, Chris Tucker’s character asks, “Do you speak-a any English? Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth,” with Jackie Chan’s character replaced by a smiling image of the First Lady.
SNL didn’t stop there. The hosts also mocked a recent FBI raid on the Fulton County Election Hub in Atlanta, which was conducted as part of an investigation related to the 2020 election. “The FBI searched a county election hub in Georgia looking for ballots to back up President Trump’s false claim that the 2020 election was rigged. Jesus, man, let it go. I mean, even Hitler stopped trying to get into art school at some point,” he said.
The documentary, financed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, follows Melania over the 20 days leading up to Donald Trump’s second inauguration in January 2025. Despite her promotion, the film faced an uphill battle with critics and audiences. Social media users are posting images of empty theaters and flooding review sites with negative ratings.
