Johnny Depp’s Unrecognizable First Look Photos for A Christmas Carol Revealed

Johnny Depp has fully transformed into the ultimate miser as the actor’s first look as Ebenezer Scrooge for A Christmas Carol is nearly impossible to recognize. This striking metamorphosis is deemed a major return to big-budget filmmaking for the star.

Johnny Depp’s first look as Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol revealed

Glimpses from the London set of Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol show Johnny Depp’s drastic physical commitment to the role. The 62-year-old actor appeared in full costume and prosthetics, buried under a heavy blue and black coat with pajamas peeking out from underneath. Long, gray-streaked hair spilled from a traditional nightcap, while aged makeup completed the visage of the bitter, elderly miser. This hasn’t been seen as a subtle character shift, but rather a total embodiment.

He filmed scenes alongside Andrea Riseborough, who plays the Ghost of Christmas Past. Riseborough, presented an equally haunting figure, covered head-to-toe in white body makeup, with pale contact lenses and a flowing spectral gown. Horror auteur Ti West directs the film, known for X and Pearl, signaling a distinctive and potentially eerie take on the well-worn tale.

Apart from them, A Christmas Carol boasts an impressive cast. The ensemble list includes Ian McKellen, Rupert Grint, Daisy Ridley, Sam Claflin, and Tramell Tillman. The project is a significant moment for Depp, as it is his first major Hollywood studio film since 2019’s Waiting for the Barbarians and 2018’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. In recent years, he has focused on smaller-scale projects like Jeanne du Barry and the directed film Modi.

Depp stepped back from mainstream Hollywood following his highly publicized 2022 defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard. After the verdict and a subsequent settlement, Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol represents his big-screen return to the studio system.

Paramount Pictures will release A Christmas Carol in theaters on November 13, positioning it as a potential holiday season standout.
