Lionsgate and Universal Pictures unveiled a new teaser poster for Michael, the upcoming biopic on Michael Jackson, ahead of its theatrical release on April 24, 2026.
Director Antoine Fuqua leads the project, with Graham King, known for Bohemian Rhapsody, producing. Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s real-life nephew, takes on the role of the pop icon. The poster shows Jaafar wearing a replica of Michael’s red leather “Beat It” jacket, aviator sunglasses, and a soft smile.
The image radiates a nostalgic golden hue and includes the tagline “His Story Begins.” According to the Michael Jackson World Network, this has fueled speculation that the film may have a multi-part narrative structure and connect to Jackson’s 1995 album HIStory. The new poster emphasizes the film’s focus on Michael’s rise from Jackson 5 fame to international superstardom.
On February 1, 2026, the official Michael X (formerly Twitter) account posted: “His story made history. MICHAEL – in theaters and IMAX April 24. #MichaelMovie.”
Lionsgate confirmed via X that a trailer will be released the following day with the post: “MICHAEL – TRAILER TOMORROW. #MichaelMovie”.
The film presents Michael Jackson’s off-stage life and iconic early solo performances. The production team conducted three weeks of reshoots in June 2025 to revise parts of the third act. Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Kat Graham, Larenz Tate, and Derek Luke appear alongside Jaafar Jackson, who plays the lead role. John Logan wrote the script.
