Reports suggest Heart Eyes 2 is in development, though there has not yet been an official announcement. According to a new report, director Josh Ruben has made progress on a sequel to Sony’s 2025 romantic horror film.
Heart Eyes 2 reportedly happening
A sequel to the 2025 horror comedy Heart Eyes is said to be under consideration. However, producers have not formally announced any follow-up to the film.
According to Dread Central, director Josh Ruben has recently completed a draft script for a second installment. He is quietly developing the project while also preparing another project, Wilderness Reform, for Paramount. However, the sequel has not been officially greenlit, and there is no confirmed timetable for production. Currently, no information about returning cast members or plot details has been shared.
Ruben has previously spoken about how he would approach a Heart Eyes franchise if given the chance. In a 2025 interview with Variety, he said, “I’ll put it this way: You could replicate the structure of any great rom-com, from His Girl Friday to Defending Your Life, and you could drop Heart Eyes into the center of that story, and have him flash and slash about.” The director added that he would aim for the tone of films like Bridget Jones or Love Actually while making the characters face a masked killer.
The first Heart Eyes film was released theatrically in the United States on Feb. 7, 2025. The story centered around a murderer with glowing red eyes who resurfaces every Valentine’s Day to attack couples. However, when an advertising executive and her colleague are targeted by a masked attacker with glowing red eyes, they attempt to fight back. The movie stars Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding.
Critics responded positively upon the film’s release, and it went on to collect approximately $33 million at the global box office. The strong reviews and box office performance sparked early discussion about a sequel.
