Rapper A$AP Rocky has publicly floated the idea of entering New York City (NYC) politics, revealing that he is considering a run for mayor after the tenure of Zohran Mamdani.
A$AP Rocky comments on NYC mayor run
During an interview with Esquire magazine, the artist made his political ambitions official. When pressed on previous hints about his NYC mayor run, A$AP Rocky stated definitively: “2029 – vote for Mayor Mayers. Vote for Rocky.” The hip hop icon framed his potential candidacy around a platform of direct, practical action and empathy for everyday New Yorkers, drawing from his own upbringing.
He continued, “I think that I would really do well because I’m a guy that’s for the people.” His stated priorities include infrastructure, transit affordability, and social services. “See pot holes, fix them. The rates for the trains, like the train fare just went up to $3. It’s f***ing crazy. Inflation is crazy. SNAP and welfare and food stamps and all of these benefits — it’s f***ed up because that’s where I derive from. Creating more job opportunities, create better health care.”
The timing of his reveal, so early in Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s term, mirrors the teasing rollout of his own music, like his recent project Don’t Be Dumb. There hasn’t been any official comment on whether the album title was a subtle critique of the new administration or on plans to address the city’s multi-billion dollar budget gap. But A$AP Rocky is clear on his possible mayoral run.
His latest album was released on January 16, 2026, and received largely positive reviews from critics, who praised its creativity and the hip hop star’s rapping skills. The album has also reportedly been a commercial success.
