Kanye West recalls wife Bianca Censori ‘recognizing’ what caused his ‘deep depressive episode’
In the exclusive interview with Vanity Fair, Kanye West confessed to having a “deep depressive episode” that followed a change in his medication, and the role his wife, Bianca Censori, played in stepping in. He spoke about a four-month manic episode, which he said took place in the first half of 2025.
West linked that period to some of his most widely condemned actions, including posts about his marriage and decisions tied to Yeezy. He recently took out a full-page ad in The Wall Street Journal to publish an apology letter.
However, in the interview, he pointed to what came next as a turning point. “Toward the end of my four-month-long manic episode, my medication was changed,” the musician said. “In that shift, the antipsychotic drug took me into a really deep depressive episode.”
West said Censori “recognized that” and that they “sought out what’s been an effective and stabilizing course correction” in the rapper’s “regime from a rehab facility in Switzerland.” Moreover, he described how hard it can be to accept help while manic.
Even so, as West connects his behavior to mental health treatment, experts cautioned against blaming it on diagnosis alone. Still, his comments in the interview with Vanity Fair clarify that he credits Censori for recognizing a dangerous low point and helping him move toward treatment.
