As the Kansas City Chiefs shift their focus to defending their Super Bowl title, one major question looms over the offseason: What are Travis Kelce’s retirement plans? Chiefs owner Clark Hunt has now publicly addressed the retirement buzz surrounding his star tight end.

With speculation building around whether Kelce will step away or gear up again, the Kansas City Chiefs are keeping the door open. Travis Kelce has not publicly announced a retirement decision, and the team appears content to wait as he evaluates his next move after another productive year.

Chiefs owner and CEO Clark Hunt addressed the situation on Good Morning Football on January 27. Hunt expressed optimism about a return while talking about the organization’s respect for Kelce’s process. “Well as an organization, we certainly hope that he will come back,” he said (via NBC Sports).

Hunt pointed to Kelce’s continued on-field impact, mentioning that while his numbers may not mirror peak seasons from years ago, the veteran still gave meaningful production and leadership. “He had another great year, maybe not on par with where he was four or five years ago, but still had over 800 yards, and was really one of the leaders on the offensive side of the ball for us. So there’s no doubt in my mind that he can still play. We’re trying to be respectful and let him have the time that he needs to make a decision.”

The Chiefs’ owner also acknowledged that Kelce’s offseason includes major personal milestones, which the team is factoring into its approach. Hunt referenced Travis Kelce’s engagement and upcoming wedding to Taylor Swift, reinforcing the team’s desire to give him space. “He has sort of a busy offseason coming up with his engagement and marriage, so we want to be respectful and give him the time he needs to make a decision. But we certainly hope that he’ll be back.”

For now, Travis Kelce’s retirement decision remains pending, with the Chiefs hopeful and prepared to wait for clarity.
