In the same week Prince Harry appeared for a trial in the UK, emotional as he spoke about privacy and the British press, he and Meghan Markle surfaced days later at the Sundance Film Festival. Now, a Montecito resident and other sources are questioning the Sussexes’ motives and direction.
The couple allegedly keeps moving between two very different worlds, and that contrast has started to fuel criticism about what they really want from their life in California.
Montecito resident talks about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s life in California
Sources exclusively talked to Page Six about Prince Harry’s trial in the UK and the subsequent hangout with Meghan Markle. A Hollywood source said, “For Harry to go from the hearing [on Wednesday] — and pleading for privacy — to then go to Sundance just days after is nuts,” as the Duke of Sussex continues his legal fight against Associated Newspapers Limited.
Moreover, the source described Harry as adrift in the US, telling the outlet, “Harry’s not really doing anything in America. It seems he is still very wrapped up in the past.” They added, “He’s really great at service — look at the success of his Invictus charity. He really should just stick with that.”
Page Six reported that some of the Sussexes’ big entertainment deals have ended, while their Archewell Foundation has struggled. Another source claimed the couple’s finances have tightened, saying they have downsized staff while Markle has been focusing on her As Ever lifestyle brand. Additionally, the Duchess and Harry now keep separate offices.
However, a Montecito resident, Gail Pollard, told the outlet, “Harry probably came here with a lot of gusto, but a lot of it fell flat.” Pollard went further, “I’d like to see him go back [to England]. That was the feeling in our small community. I don’t care for either one of them. They’re not sincere. They’re doing everything for fame and fortune.”
As public appearances and the UK trial keep clashing, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s California chapter continues to draw skepticism.
