Kevin Costner on Teaming up With Morgan Freeman 35 Years After Robin Hood

Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman recently attended the premiere of their upcoming historical drama series, The Gray House. On the red carpet, Entertainment Tonight asked both actors what they remember about working together on the 1991 period drama, Robin Hood.

The Dances with Wolves actor said, “We stepped into this Robin Hood mythology, and he was just immediately available as a man and as an actor. You know, we had these sword fights, and it was a really good moment for both of us.”

Costner added, “We knew, almost like The Gray House, we knew we had a good script. We knew we had a very good retelling of Robin Hood. The script and direction reflected that.”

The Shawshank Redemption actor, however, remembered very little. He said, I remember having a good time doing that. That’s about it. It was 35 years ago. I don’t remember much.”

While explaining why they chose to reunite on The Gray House, Coster said, “We’re still storytellers at our core. We didn’t exactly see a part for ourselves, and Morgan was busy with certain things. But we recognized it as a real piece of entertainment first and foremost.”

Meanwhile, Freeman said, “American history is kind of cool. It’s got some good stuff going on in there. This one is one that nobody ever even knew about or thought about. So, stories like that are really worth telling.”

The Gray House is a historical drama set during the American Civil War. It follows a group of women who work as Union spies and help transform the underground railroad. The show will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on February 26, 2026.
