It seems Chris Pratt was keen on playing Batman, but things did not go as planned. The 46-year-old actor appeared on a podcast to promote his new sci-fi movie Mercy, which will come out on January 23. During the interview, he also discussed failed superhero movie auditions and an idea for Star-Lord’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Chris Pratt reveals he pitched to play Batman
In an interview with Horowitz for his Happy Sad Confused podcast, Chris Pratt revealed he pitched the idea to play Batman to James Gunn. For those unversed, Gunn has directed Pratt in all three Guardians of the Galaxy movies for Marvel. However, the filmmaker has now moved on to become the co-CEO of DC Studios and is helming projects such as Superman and Man of Tomorrow.
Despite Gunn moving on to other directorial ventures, the duo continues to share a great bond with each other. The Mercy star confessed that he pitched himself to Gunn to play Batman, likely in The Brave and the Bold. He shared a mock-up photo of himself with the DC superhero’s mask photoshopped onto his face.
Pratt confessed, “I did it in Photoshop and [James] just said, ‘Haha.’ It’s safe to say I am not going to be Batman.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Pratt reflected on his bond with Gunn, who played a key role in his career breakthrough with the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. The 46-year-old last played Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which was released in 2023.
Pratt hopes that if Marvel greenlights another installment of the Guardians franchise, he would like Gunn to come on board once again. He stated, “In a dream world, it would be somehow James. But I don’t think that’s likely to happen. So I’d have to think about who would be the right director. There are amazing directors out there.”
Furthermore, the Passengers star revealed he had a “f***ing great” idea for how to bring Star-Lord back to the MCU. He shared, “I’m happy to do anything they want me to do and will. And also, I personally have a really strong vision of what I would want him to do. And I think it’s f***ing great.”
