Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet were married for a significant time on screen, but that did not guarantee a wedding invitation for Ferguson in Stonestreet’s real-life wedding. The Modern Family co-stars discussed Stonestreet’s wedding in a recent podcast episode, where he explained why his on-screen partner was not part of the celebration.
Eric Stonestreet says only family was invited to his private wedding
Eric Stonestreet, who played Cameron Tucker on Modern Family, made an appearance on an episode of his Modern Family castmate Jesse Tyler Ferguson‘s podcast, Dinner’s On Me. Ferguson, of course, played Mitchell Tucker in the show, Cameron’s husband.
During the podcast, Stonestreet revealed that Ferguson, like his other friends, did not receive an invitation to his wedding. He explained that this was because the ceremony was extremely intimate, with only a small number of guests.
“We didn’t invite anyone to our wedding other than our family,” the Modern Family actor explained. However, Stonestreet added that he personally informed Ferguson about the wedding. He said it was something he did for all of his close friends.
“The equivalent to an invitation to our wedding was a phone call before the wedding. Which was like, ‘Hey, this is your non-invitation. Because we love you and we want you to know about it first,’” Stonestreet explained. “So there was a group of people that we called and told. And then, we got married, and I had a text all set up ready to go. And then the moment we got married, we just sent it out to everyone, other people.”
He further added about the wedding, “We wanted it to be a secret because we were keeping it from our family. So it’s not like now all of a sudden I’m going to let everyone know and not my mom. But I just couldn’t imagine us getting married and you not knowing about it, and other people don’t know about it.”
Ferguson confirmed that he was happy about receiving the phone call.
Ferguson and Stonestreet starred opposite each other for all 11 seasons of Modern Family.
