Domhnall Gleeson drew some laughs at Rachel McAdams‘ Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony. Her About Time co-star jokingly declared that McAdams “doesn’t deserve this” while praising her talent, kindness, and career achievements.
What Domhnall Gleeson said About Time co-star Rachel McAdams
Gleeson opened his speech at the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony by joking that anyone who worked with McAdams would probably agree with him. “Rachel, I don’t think you deserve this,” he said, before explaining why he felt conflicted.
He poked fun at the unfairness of McAdams’ many achievements, noting that she is loved on set, highly talented, a devoted mother of two, and successful in both comedy and drama. Gleeson joked, “It is not okay to be a Hollywood star and a character actor, to be gifted at comedy and drama, to be unrestricted by genre or expectation, and to be the loveliest person I’ve ever met in my life.” His playful critique was clearly a tribute in disguise.
Gleeson got nostalgic talking about filming About Time, saying McAdams’ performance was so spot-on that he genuinely felt like he could time-travel for three months. He remembered acting alongside her in a quaint English town, with Bill Nighy as his father, and talked about just how powerful her acting made the whole experience. “That was irresponsible. It’s your talent, I guess. But let me tell you, the comedown was brutal,” Gleeson said.
The event also spotlighted McAdams’ upcoming thriller Send Help, bringing out director Sam Raimi and co-star Dylan O’Brien. Raimi called the film an underdog story full of survival, empowerment, and transformation.
For those unaware, McAdams is a Canadian actress celebrated for both her romantic and dramatic roles. Initially, she gained fame with Mean Girls (2004) and The Notebook (2004). She later starred in Spotlight (2015), Doctor Strange (2016), and About Time (2013). McAdams has received critical acclaim, including a Screen Actors Guild Award for Spotlight and multiple award nominations for her performances.
