Russell Brand Granted Bail on Sexual Assault Charges — Report

Comedian and actor Russell Brand has reportedly been granted bail by a London court. The update follows his appearance on two charges of sexual assault and rape. He appeared remotely from the United States for a brief hearing.

Russell Brand granted bail by London judge

Russell Brand appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on January 20 via video link. The hearing lasted approximately six minutes. During it, he only spoke to confirm his personal details, including his name and date of birth. The charges, filed in December 2025, relate to alleged incidents involving two women in London in 2009, as per court documents reported by the BBC. This is a separate legal case from previous allegations.

A judge in London granted the 50-year-old bail following the hearing. His next court date is a plea hearing scheduled for February 17 at London’s Southwark Crown Court (via Deadline). These new charges are distinct from a prior case. In April 2025, Brand was charged with five counts of assault and rape stemming from allegations by four women.

Those alleged incidents were said to have occurred in England between 1999 and 2005. People had reported details of those allegations, which included claims of rape and sexual assault in various locations in southern England and London. Regarding the 2025 charges, Brand pleaded not guilty last May. In a social media video from last year, he stated, “I’ve never engaged in non-consensual activity. I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes (via The Hollywood Reporter).”

The initial allegations against Russell Brand became public in September 2023 following a joint media investigation. At the time of the 2025 charges, Metropolitan Police Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy said, “The women who have made reports continue to receive support from specially trained officers.” Further, asking whether any others affected are to come forward, since the investigation is ongoing.

If you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted, support is available through the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673).
