Comedian and political commentator D.L. Hughley is speaking out against President Donald Trump, accusing him of acting with malice in his recent approach toward illegal immigrants. He also touched on separate remarks involving Nicki Minaj.
D.L. Hughley comments on Donald Trump
During a conversation with TMZ on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, D.L. Hughley criticized Donald Trump over what he described as punitive actions against illegal immigrants, particularly in Democratic-leaning states.
Hughley argued that immigrants living in states such as Texas, Florida, Georgia, and California are being unfairly targeted. “There are more illegal immigrants, if that is your case, in Texas, in Florida, in Georgia, even in California,” Hughley said. “He is punishing those people because, one, the governor ran against him, and two, he just wants to be evil. This is a campaign against blue states and blue cities.”
This critique follows Trump’s assertion at a White House briefing that criminal illegal immigrants make the Hells Angels biker gang “look like the sweetest people on Earth.” Hughley frames such rhetoric as part of a deliberate strategy rooted in vindictiveness.
The actor-comedian’s commentary didn’t stop with immigration. He also reiterated a previous point about rapper Nicki Minaj, while referencing Minaj’s husband, Kenneth “Zoo” Petty, a registered sex offender due to a 1995 first-degree rape conviction. Hughley suggested the rapper should focus less on criticizing figures like California Governor Gavin Newsom and more on her own circumstances. “Damn Don Lemon, Nicki Minaj needs to be worried about Chris Hansen.”
This echoes a post Hughley made on Threads in December: “Nicki Minaj shouldn’t post anything about kids cuz her husband can’t be within 1000 ft of one! It ain’t Gavin (Newsom), it’s Chris (Hansen) she should be worried about (via Complex).”
Together, D.L. Hughley’s comments come under his broader criticism of Donald Trump, framing the president’s actions and associations as deliberate and harmful.
