McDonald’s reportedly set to use AI to bring menu updates

McDonald’s is set to deploy AI to revamp their food, drive-thru, and kitchen services this year. As reported by Mashed, McDonald’s is set to renovate and improve their kitchen services through a major tech overhaul powered by Google Cloud and led by incoming Chief Restaurant Experience Officer Jill McDonald.

The fast-food chain plans to deploy AI systems that will track how healthy and fresh the food ingredients are and notify employees of any incoming disasters or failures. Moreover, the AI systems will adjust the cooking temperatures based on the live order flow. This will ensure the meat patties are not undercooked and the fries turn out crispy and piping hot.

The AI tools will aid McDonald’s employees to speed up their service during rush hours and also ensure there is minimal wastage of food and ingredients. Furthermore, Mashed stated that deploying AI tools will lead to fewer “machine broken” incidents, which will ensure no customer returns empty-handed from the store.

In fact, McDonald’s has ambitious plans to revamp at least 27,000 drive-thrus and upgrade them. These new and improved drive-thrus will run on AI technology after previously discontinuing their AI-powered drive-thrus. There will be up to three lanes to accommodate more car orders at the same time. Additionally, a special lane will be in place for customers who have ordered through their mobile phones.

This will ensure there is less time wasted and employees deliver the orders faster. Notably, about 70 percent of McDonald’s orders come from their drive-thrus. The AI tools powered by Google Cloud will ensure employees are able to efficiently handle real-time processing and accuracy even in chaotic drive-thrus.

Finally, McDonald’s has ensured that using AI tools will not replace their employees. Instead, these tools will aid them to focus on speed, accuracy, and consistency.
