2015’s western action comedy The Ridiculous 6 may have fallen flat in front of critics, but it introduced Hollywood fans to an unlikely on-screen partnership in the form of Adam Sandler and country singer Blake Shelton. The collaboration seems to have been a surprise for Shelton as well, as the God’s Country singer opened up about his experience acting alongside the comedy veteran in a recent interview.
Blake Shelton talks about Adam Sandler collaboration
While speaking with People, the 49-year-old musician revealed that he had always been a fan of the Happy Gilmore star and enjoyed sharing the screen with Sandler despite being a “nervous wreck” in the initial stages.
“I was such a fan. I didn’t know what he was going to be like, but I wanted him to be like the guy that’s in all these movies, and sure enough, he is. And he literally plays himself, I think, in all of his movies,” Blake Shelton said of Adam Sandler.
Explaining how it was to play out a fictional role for the first time alongside an industry veteran, Shelton noted, “It was just so much fun, but leading up to that, I was a nervous wreck because I had to act, and I never really acted before. Everything about it was just like a fish out of water for me, but Adam instantly made me feel comfortable.”
Blake Shelton finally concluded his account on Adam Sandler by saying, “You can’t help [but] smile when you’re around that guy.”
Directed by Frank Coraci and featuring Terry Crews, Jorge Garcia, Taylor Lautner, Rob Schneider, Luke Wilson, and Will Forte, along with Sandler, Shelton, and others, The Ridiculous 6 premiered in theaters on December 11, 2015. Upon release, the movie garnered abysmal reviews from critics and currently reads 0% on the Tomatometer and 37% on the Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it secured an unparalleled viewership count upon its digital release, becoming the most-watched release in Netflix history at the time.
