Sydney Sweeney’s 2024 Horror Movie Is Dominating on Streaming

An R-rated Sydney Sweeney horror movie, which came out in 2024, has emerged as a huge success on streaming. Immaculate, a religious horror film, has become one of the top-viewed movies on HBO Max. The film originally premiered at the South by Southwest festival on March 12, 2024, before hitting theaters ten days later on March 22.

Sydney Sweeney’s Immaculate finds big audience on HBO Max

Sydney Sweeney’s R-rated horror movie, Immaculate, is the #2 movie on HBO Max as of January 19, 2026, according to FlixPatrol. Notably, it is the top movie in South American countries like Argentina, Bahamas, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, and Venezuela.

Accordingly, the film, which has a total of 209 popularity points, is outranked by Leonardo DiCaprio’s One Battle After Another (#1, 460 points). However, it outranks the following movies:

  • How to Train Your Dragon (#3, 199 points)
  • Alien: Romulus (#4, 195 points)
  • The Phoenician Scheme (#5, 155 points)
  • Sleepless (#6, 149 points)

Following its release, Immaculate, made on a modest, estimated budget of $9 million grossed $34.8 million globally (via Box Office Mojo).

The film holds a 72% critical score and a 58% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, the film has a Metascore of 57, drawn from 39 critical reviews, and a user score of 5.8, drawn from 144 user ratings. Both the Metascore and user score denote “mixed or average” reception.

Immaculate’s story follows a novice but religious nun named Cecilia, who joins an Italian convent in a new role situated on the countryside. Not long after joining, Cecilia realizes to her horror that the convent harbors shady and sinister secrets.

Michael Mohan helmed the film from Andrew Lobel’s screenplay. Meanwhile, Sweeney, David Bernad, Sweeney’s ex-fiancé Jonathan Davino, Michael Heimler, and Teddy Schwarzman co-produced the film.

In addition to Sweeney, Immaculate stars Álvaro Morte, Simona Tabasco, Benedetta Porcaroli, Giorgio Colangeli, Dora Romano, Giulia Heathfield Di Renzi, Giuseppe Lo Piccolo, and Giampiero Judica, among others.
