Two of the MCU’s most iconic lovers may clash in Avengers: Doomsday, according to a new report. The rumored confrontation teases a surprising twist in the dynamic between the characters, hinting at a conflict that could reshape familiar relationships.
Steve Rogers to fight a Peggy Carter variant in Avengers: Doomsday
Rumors claim that Steve Rogers will fight a variant of Peggy Carter in Avengers: Doomsday. Scooper MyTimeToShineHello stated that the film will feature a “Steve vs Peggy” scenario.
In a follow-up post on January 19, 2026, they added, “Good Steve vs Evil Peggy.” This suggests a confrontation between a heroic Steve Rogers and an alternate, possibly antagonistic, Peggy Carter.
The report follows speculation that Hayley Atwell will portray multiple versions of Peggy Carter in Avengers: Doomsday. MyTimeToShineHello last month posted, “Hayley Atwell is playing multiple versions of Peggy in Avengers Doomsday.” Marvel has not officially confirmed Hayley Atwell’s involvement or the inclusion of Peggy Carter variants.
The film is expected to feature Captain Carter, first introduced in What If…? Fans expect her to take on a larger role after Scarlet Witch killed her in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Another likely version includes the version of Peggy Carter, who reunited with Steve Rogers at the end of Avengers: Endgame, after he returned the Infinity Stones.
The possibility of an evil Peggy variant aligns with rumors that multiple super soldier variants may team up, potentially including Sam Wilson, Bucky Barnes, John Walker, and Alexei Shostakov. There is also speculation that an evil Peggy may ally with Doctor Doom, although this is unverified.
When asked about the Doomsday filming rumors in a Collider interview, Hayley Atwell responded, “Really? Who…on Reddit? Who’s doing that? Who’s saying that?” In a separate Den of Geek interview, she said, “I would love that. There are so many things that she could do,” calling Captain Carter “an underserved character.”
Marvel will release Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026.
