During Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update, Jost addressed the latest report about the highest-grossing actor of all time, a title that was previously held by Johansson. However, now the holder of the title is Saldaña, who recently starred in Avatar: Fire and Ash, which has crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide. Funnily addressing Saldaña, overtaking the title from his wife, Jost said, “Zoe Saldaña—who stars in the new Avatar movie—has surpassed Scarlett Johansson to become the highest-grossing actress of all time.”
As he then pointed out at the graph bar of both actresses’ earnings, he went on to say, “Okay, well let’s see what happens if you include the box office from Scarlett’s husband’s movies.” As he delivered this punchline, Johannson’s earnings dropped from $15.4 billion to $15.1 billion. This sparked laughter across the room, with Jost joking, “It went down?”
Jost has frequently referenced Johansson in his jokes, most recently last month, with a humorous remark about menopause during a joke-swap segment. He said, “New research shows that millions of women leave the workforce due to menopause. Which means there’s only a couple years left on my gravy train.” At the time, a photo of Johannson popped up on the screen, leaving Jost speechless and in laughter.
